With the general election off and running presidential candidates, parties, and issue groups continue to air ads in August and September. Since August 1st the candidates have spent a combined total of $63,714,671airing ads (as of 9/15/08). Candidates have spent $10,185,127 in Pennsylvania alone on ads that aired 16,287 times since August 1st (as of 9/15/08). In August, the total amount spent by candidates, parties, and issue groups on presidential ads was $51,300,875. A combined total of 41 new ads were aired by issue groups, parties, and candidates in August—a huge increase from the 18 ads released in July. Candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, both having selected Vice President running mates, released a combined total of 34 new ads in August, a tremendous increase from the combined candidate total of 8 ads that aired in July. However, in September the numbers of ads being released rise each day, a combined total of 27 new presidential ads have been aired thus far by interest groups, parties, and presidential candidates, and $23,267,823 has been spent thus far on all presidential ads in September (as of 9/16/08). Barack Obama and John McCain have released a combined total of 24 new ads so far in September.
